Mustard Season IN WINE COUNTRY
With the end of winter finally arriving, the brilliant carpets of mustard blossoms iconic in Sonoma County are finally making their yearly debut throughout the vineyards. For those wondering why this is such an exciting time of the year for Wine Country, mustard is more than just a feast for the eyes, it’s a feast for the vines. Mustard thrives until the grape vines bud, at which point they are used as mulch to provide essential nutrients for the emerging grape plants.
mustard blossom hotspots
Not native to northern California, the legend goes that Franciscan missionaries dispersed seeds of the bright flower as they searched out locations for missions. Whatever truth might be behind the tales, you can simply pick an area that’s populated with wineries and vineyards, take a peasant ride, and gaze out onto the beautiful fields.
Some of the more popular places to check out beautiful mustard blooms include spots along the Russian River, Dry Creek Valley, Highway 12, and any of our guided tours! What’s more, all of these places and more are also within biking distance of our tour center in Windsor, so make sure to rent one of our high-quality bikes while you’re here and check them out!
